2 weeks into breast feeding and hardly producing

I had my baby girl 2 weeks ago and I have been using the pump only and I have tried several times to get her to latch but she won't do it so I have been forced to just use the pump. This was something that i really was hopnig I could do but it seems to me that my supply is getting lower and lower every day. today I was only able to make 2 ounces from both breasts combined. I have been pumping every 3 hours and I am having an extremely hard time. Is there anything I can do to get my supply to come up or is there anything I can do to help her start latching?

It's not too late to get her to latch. Babies are MUCH more efficient than the pump. One of my boys developed nipple confusion (where he refused to latch and preferred the bottle) and it took us close to 2 months. Here is what I did to get him to latch. But keep in mind that it didn't happen overnight but it took many weeks.

-Skin to skin. You with no shirt and no bra and baby with just a diaper. Put her on your chest.
-Pump to get letdown going and then try to latch
-Put some milk on your nipples and try to latch
-Breast compressions http://www.nbci.ca/index.php?option=com_...

More ideas:

One thing I found was to nurse as the FIRST signs of hunger. I made the mistake of waiting until he was crying and it made it more difficult for him to latch.

In the mean time, keep pumping to maintain supply.

As far as the pump, that's on the high end of normal! Average output is 1/2 to 2 oz total. I would probably nurse every 2 hours, not going over 3 hours, including at night.

Hang in there, you can do this!

I would talk to a lactation consultant asap to get baby to latch. This is the best way to increase milk supply.

Use a good electric dual pump, so you can pump both breasts at the same time. Make sure to pump every 4 hours overnight too. Don't skip any pumpings.

I would really try herbs too. They can really increase your milk supply. I'm using Breastea from http://www.breastea.com and I've seen a major increase in my milk supply since then. Hope this helps!

Lactation consultant. She needs to latch in the meantime pump more often. I wp
ould do it every hour and a half to stimulate breasts,. also if you dont have a good pump - medela electric then it is not going to work... pump has to be efficient
