I was wondering if any other mum's are still wrapping their older babies for sleep time. My 5 month old son will not go to sleep in his own cot unless he is wrapped tightly in a muslin wrap. I have tried a sleeping bag and also a cot sheet tightly across him from chest down but he seems to wake himself up especially at night. Does anyone have any suggestions??

Hi

I swaddled my 9 month old until he was 7 months.  We found he slept better.  Of course he was too large for a real swaddle so we just folded the blanket into a triangle and wrapped his arms.  He really liked it and would sleep anywhere.  He squirmed out of it quickly but seemed to need it to fall asleep and relax.  Really, the only reason we stopped is that he also needs a pacifier to sleep but with his arms wrapped he could not get it on his own.

Yeah, I wrapped my son until he was 8 months and able to get out of it himself. I have read that you shouldn't keep them swaddled for too long because they do a lot of growing in their sleep, but that a normal 6-8 hours is fine. I loved the Miracle Blanket!

I had to wrap my son until he was about 6 months ( he had colic for 6 months and all we did was rock and wrap him, and he would only sleep for about an hour at a time).  I did sleep training with my son, but what I did too was slowly get him out of being swaddled.  I would swaddle him, but leave one arm out for about a week, and then evetually we just stopped swaddling him!

hey i am still wrapping my 6 month old, just not tight. we have her in a sleeping bag with the wrap over the top, so one day when she is ready to give up the wrap she will be used to the bag aleady. i tryed loosening off the wrap in the day time first and just a little bit. when you have had good day sleeps for a bit then start on the night. our wee girl slept so well at night i was not keen to change. good luck

I think I was still wrapping at that stage and I know a friend with twins was wrapping them till at least 1 year old. My son started getting himself out of the wrap which is when we stopped using it but my friend weaned her two off it by wrapping tightly but with one arm free to start with and then after awhile with both arms free. She was using a sheet to wrap them in by this stage as the muslin got too small fairly quickly.
