9 days with no bowel movement.....any advice?

I think I saw something about this, but I can't find it now. My little one is almost 3 months old and about 3 weeks ago she stopped having her regular bowel movements. She is breastfed exclusively. She isn't straining, but has horrible gas. I thought that I read somewhere that a lot of breastfed babies go a long time between movements. I gave her a suppository the first time when she went 5 days....but I kind of want her to go on her own. I would love to hear anyone's advice or similar situations.

Try to give her a little bit of water and/or apple juice... just a little. It will not affect your breasfeeding

This is normal. I just went through this with my 3 month. Doc said unless he's fussy and not eating correctly it's normal. After 7 days the doc said to give him a little prune juice... We did one ounce juice one ounce water and he only actually ate an ounce. Later that night he had 3 movements. Then he went his normal 2 days without (he usually goes once every other day or maybe twice) and went back to normal.

This is perfectly normal. When my son was about that age and exclusively he would regularly go every 11 days. He also had very stinky farts until he started solids lol. I wouldnt worry about it if your daughter isnt in any pain. My child nurse told me this as well.

my little girl had the same problem so i took her to see a naturapath, she put he on pro biotics twice a day and some drops she put me on 2 cups of cammomile tea and one cup of peppermint tea per day it helps her through my milk. the pro biotics you get the kids ones and moisten your nipple then coat your nipple with it just before a feed they suck it off the nipple. the drops were made up for me but was told if i run out to get the Brauer Colic Relief it has worked wonders i would recomend it to everyone.

It is normal for an EBF baby to go 7-10 days without having a bowel movement. This is because the amount of colostrum in the milk decreases (this is the laxative property of breastmilk) Do not use suppositories as this hinders them from strengthening their own intestinal muscles as the suppositories "force" the bowels to contract. Unless the babys stool is black, blood stained, hard and pellet like then your baby is far from constipated. It is very normal for any baby to strain, grunt, turn red and bear down with gas and bowel movements.
