My 5 week old has been very gassy. He has gas all day long, and at times screams from painful gas :( Has anyone eliminated dairy to ease baby's gas? I don't know what else it could be as my diet hasn't changed. Or could this pass as my baby's digestive system matures?

I agree with Sage Newman...but just to add: My doctor suggested I sit my daughter up after feedings so that she digested easier. I would put a rolled up blanket under my boppy pillow and lay her in it so she was propped up for about 15-20 minutes. This helped significantly. Also, try laying your baby on his back and moving his legs in a bicycle motion...this will help release the gas and he will feel so much better. Make sure that you burp him when you're finished nursing, I would skip this step sometimes because it took forever, and I figured she didn't have to burp...but keep at it, usually they have to burp it just takes a while.

If all else fails, gas drops work well too.

It may pass as your babies digestive system matures. You may need to eliminate some foods you will just have to play around with them to see what may be causing it. You can help him relieve his gas by trying to burp him more often during feedings, or Try burping him a different way, sometimes a position change is great, rubbing upwards with a little applied pressure is a good trick or even lay baby down and carefully do bicycles or lift baby's legs slowly up and slowly down, you will hear lots of grunting during most of this but baby is okay. Sometimes putting baby in a sitting postion maybe in your lap or in a upright bouncer with a rolled blanket up under the legs to create a little pressure to push and release helps just make sure that baby's head and neck is supported. I hope I helped in some kid of way.
