Anyone used the Paragard (copper T) IUD while exclusively breastfeeding, before their first PP period?

I am exclusively BF my 3 month old daughter, this is my first child, and I am now going to get the IUD put in in a couple weeks. I have not had a period yet. I've read a lot about the Paragard causing bleeding after insertion and heavy bleeding during monthly periods for a while after, but I am wondering if BF will ward off the return of my period. Will getting the Paragard cause my period to return earlier? And if you have had experience with bleeding while BF with the Paragard, does IUD removal stop the bleeding soon after? Would really love some responses, thank you!!

i had the paragard inserted six weeks after giving birth and am also breastfeeding. i had no bleeding after insertion, and six months later, am experiencing my first period since pre-pregnancy. so far, its light and no cramps. i am still breastfeeding but the frequency has decreased since my baby has started eating solids foods. I hope this helps any mom wondering...

Just a thought....If you start bleeding a lot...(maybe you won't ) from insertion and then before your body adjusts you may decrease your milk supply (that is just my thought!!!! so it might not be true) because while you are nursing and your periods come back in a natural way, most women usually have lower supply during periods after the period is over everything goes back to normal. Some women say that bleeding is very heave after an IUD, so if it was me I don't think I would take any chance...

Lianna - Have you gotten any feedback or had experience with this yet? I am considering an IUD when my second child (now six weeks) is 3 mo old and I am also exclusively breastfeeding. Curious if getting the Paragard will make my period appear. I hear Mirena will not but I have had problems with hormone BC and BF with my first child so I'm hesitant to even do the low-dose hormone in Mirena. Thanks! Sarah

I don't have a paraguard but I do have the mirena. I didn't have my period when I had it put it, I did bleed for about 6 weeks after getting it, however that is completely normal and didn't affect my supply. My period didn't return till my daughter turned 8 months old she's now 18 months old and I sitll have only had my period about 4 times at most.

This is the second time I've had the mirena, I wasn't breastfeeding the first time I had it so I had a monthly period with it however the mirena lessens the bleeding and doesn't cause heavy bleeding so I can't comment on that. I do know that after having the mirena removed I was able to conceive my daughter within 2-3 months.
