Baby eating every 4 hours

I am new to this site and am seeking advice. I am a first time mother to a two month old baby that has recently started eating every 4 hours. He weighs 11 lbs 1 oz now (weighed 7 lbs 4 oz at birth). On average, he eats at 6 am, 10 am, 2 pm, 6 pm and 10 pm. Once he falls asleep, he's out until his first morning feeding. So typically he'll fall asleep around 11-11:30ish pm and not wake to eat. His last feeding for the night is a bottle. All other times he is nursing on the breast.

Basically I want to know if this is ok or normal for a baby of his age and weight to go 4 hours without eating and then to not wake at night to nurse. His doctor said it's fine that he is going 3-4 hours but I just want to know other mothers' experiences.

I agree with Carolyn! My daughter slept straight through the night a week after coming home. It was wonderful and you are VERY lucky. My second child was not about to sleep through more than two hours without eating, he's 8 months old and I wake many many times at night. I miss sleep. lol Consider yourself lucky and your little one very content! :)

My daughter (now 14) was a 9lb 4oz newborn, and was breast fed until she was 10 months old and self weaned. She ate every four hours for the first four weeks, and then, that fifth week, fed at midnight as usual....I woke up at 4am, but she didn't.
I bumped her bassinett (we kept her next to our bed), she jumped like babies do. OK, she's alive. I went back to sleep.
Woke up at 5. She's still asleep. I did the bump the bassinett thing again, she jumped, and I went back to sleep.
At 6am, my husband woke up, "Is she OK?!" I would usually put her in the bed with us after her 4am feeding. He woke up, saw she wasn't in the bed, and freaked. I shushed him, and she FINALLY woke up at 7am as he was getting out of the shower.
From then on, after her midnight feeding, she was done for the night. I didn't worry, just counted my blessings.
And pumped. A LOT.

mine did the same, so long as you are getting enough wet/dirty diapers, and baby is happy enjoy it !!

I couldnt imagine feeding every 2 hours day and night as i have read some mothers are past a year !

it just means baby is good at getting his milk, and is getting plenty of fatty milk holding him over. Just follow his hunger cues and you are good to go.

I know my milk is super fatty, just put a jar of pumped milk to settle on the counter for an hour and see how it seperates. Mine is like 2/3 fat, my sister in law, had a thin coating of fat along the top, like 1/6.

We for sure are the lucky ones !!

enjoy it !
