Well my DS is 14 months old and still nurses!! He just started daycare and i just started college so he only nurses once in the AM before we leave, as soon as he gets home from school, then once to go to sleep at night. I dont see the problem and i want to nurse him until HE wants to stop, my grandmother used to be very supportive but now she is telling me EVERY SINGLE DAY that its time to wean him. well first of all im not going to and secondly why all of a sudden is it such a "problem"?? its not her life! grrrrr

If you want to continue nursing until your son weans himself do it!! You are the mom, you get to decide whats right for you and your baby! Don't let people make you feel bad or upset, tell them that when its ther child they can make the rules, but this is your child and they need to butt out! I have had to have that conversation with friends/family a few times now, and let me tell you, it's quite liberating!

You're not alone! My mom was pretty supportive up until my twin boys hit about 18 months. She started saying some pretty rude and ignorant things. I sent her an email telling her that her comments were uncalled for and provided some links about benefits, etc, and telling her that I feel that this is best for my sons.

It's very frustrating for sure! But, I stood my ground and didn't let her ignorance sway me one bit.

I'm getting something similar from my Dad now too! "You're not going to be nursing at 5 or 8 years, are you?" Ugh! My daughter's only 17 months old and I was planning on letting her wean naturally too.

14 months is great though. I've heard its very common for LOs to decide between 18-24 months they want to stop. A few go for even longer, but its time to enjoy the bond we have with them before its lost forever.
