Best formula for BF babies?

Unfortunately I have had to start supplementing my daughter with formula. She has been exclusively BF until now- she is 3 1/2 mo. What is the best formula for this? I have used Similac Sensative for Spit Up powder and she does not like it. She does ok with Enfamil Premium Newborn ready to use liquid, but it is only for up to 3 mo. So it seems se likes the ready made stuff. Anyone else have this situation and what formula do you find works best? I will still be BF a much as possible, so she will not need to use the formula exclusively.

Have you talked to a lactation consultant first? I would be interested to know why you feel you need to start supplementing. If it is a milk supply issue, there are ways a lactation consultant can help you increase your milk supply. I'm not too up on formulas these days. Good luck.

Firstly, know that average output is 1/2 to 2 oz TOTAL. And it's totally normal for pump output to decrease thanks to supply regulation.

Also, watch the amount of milk she's getting during the day. You want about 1.25 oz per hour of separation.

Having said that, I did combo feeding with my first daughter. She had formula during the day and we nursed when we were together. And like I said before, there isn't a specific formula that's better for breastfed babies. It's just what works for your baby

I would love to continue to BF exclusively! I did until last week. I had a freezer supply that got used up once I went back to work. I pump 3xday at work and used to get 12 or more oz, but that has dropped to between 8-9 :( She eats more than that during the day, so now she is getting a little bit of formula, but it does not seem to satisfy her. I have started pumping once or twice more at home. I took Motherlove herbals for 2 weeks (they did nothing), am consciously drinking more water and just started taking Fenugreek the other day. She sleeps through the night and I feed her in the morning before I go to work and when we are home in the evenings. While at the sitter she used to be ok with 3 bottles, but now she wants at least 4 (usually 3.5 or 4 oz bottles). I am feeling realy guilty that first, I had to go to work and can't raise my own baby, and now I can't even feed her :(

May I ask what's going on? Maybe we can figure out a way where you don't have to supplement?

There is no formula that is best for breastfed babies. It just depends on the baby.
