My little boy is 6 weeks old tomorrow and up until now he has been BF fine. His latch was great and he was gaining weight normally. But last night and today he hasn't been latching properly and when i try and BF him he just cries and cries. It is not my diet because i am eating the same stuff i have been since i was 4 months pregnant and my supply is good. I don't know what to do. I can not get in to see anyone until next week and atm i am pumping because i do not want to lose my supply. I have also tried to bottle feed my son and he does drink out of it but i am worried he might get attached to the bottle and refuse to be BF. Please i just really need some advice because right now i am at a loss and i would prefer to BF if i can.

I use the closer to nature tommee tippee bottles and they work great. Zero nipple confussion...we started with another bottle and the flow was faster then when bf so she was mad it wouldn't come out as fast....we changed to the tommee tippee and they are perfect!

Get the number for your nearest La Leche League Group and give them a ring. They should be able to help you much quicker. Fussiness at the breast can have all sorts of causes, like thrush, oversupply, reflux. Did you try to feed him lying down or while carrying him in a baby-carrier or sling? Sometimes that can help.

It sounds like it may be a case of nipple confusion to me. What kind of bottles are you using when he does take one? You need to use the kind with a slow flow nipple or they will get used to the fast flow and start prefering bottles. I use the Advent Air for my daughter when she is at daycare because it's got a wide nipple like a breast so the latch is similar between the breast and the bottle. The right bottle can reduce the chances of nipple confusion. Keep trying to get him to latch; it will work eventually.
