Birth control pill and nursing

I have just started taking yasmin to help stabalize my moods, because since my period has returned with my second child I have extreme mood swings during ovulation and right before I start. My doc knows I'm nursing (almost exclusively) my seven month old son. But as I was reading the enclosed papers it says to try not to take the pill until you have weaned child. Does anyone else take this pill? Or heard not to take birth control pills before weaning?

I take the mini pill which is Progesterone-Only. When I went in for my 6 week check-up that is what my OB recommended because I was not sure how far apart I was going to space for baby #2. Otherwise I would have gotten the IUD.

My milk supply was never affected. I have been taking it for 8 months.

You do have to be very carefull about taking it at the same time everyday though.

Chona have you tried Shatavri? This is great for increasing your supply. It was given to me by my board certified lactation consultant. It is all natural and the only side effect is a gas for you not the baby (this never happened to me). You take 1 capsule 4 times a day. You should also stimulate as much as possible with either your infant or a pump. If you are still exclusively breastfeeding I would suggest pumping 2-3 times a day. Pump until you are empty. This usually takes under 15 minutes. A double electric pump works the best for this. Good luck!

I've been on an estrogen-free pill since my little one was about 2 months and it hasn't affected my supply at all. I take Nora-BE and have never had a problem.

I was taking birth control pills until it made my milk supply diminish, I have been trying to increase it ever since.

Quoting Heidi:

Chelsea, Do you have any suggestions? Perhaps something that would also help stabalize my moods and not decrease my milk supply.

Do you mind if I take a few days to research this?  I am studying to be a Le Leche League leader and i have access to some good resources.  Just in terms of birth control I would say Mirena but I am not sure that it stabilizes moods.  I would say don't take the pill in the meantime.   Once your milk supply is effect it's a battle to get it back.

I would highly recommend using another form of birth control. The pill can decrease your milk supply.

I don't know about that pill, but I'm taking alesse and I don' t notice teh mood swings and crying that used to preced my period pre-pregnancy when I was on Diane 35. I am nursing too and it hasn't affected the milk supply.
