I had this white bump on my nipple for months. It didn't hurt, I continued to breastfeed, but it slowly got bigger...resembling a clogged pore but wasn't popable and didn't appear to have anything in it. It kind of just looked like skin, but white. Well overtime is started shrinking and recently turned purple. I figured it was just healing but now it is black!! Im freaking out, someone please help! It doesn't hurt or anything but I am afraid my nipple is like dying or somthing...its only a centimeter or 2 in diameter so its not very big. Could it be an abnormally dark scab? it just seems too shiny and smooth for a scab. Btw, I have been breastfeeding for a year now.

Yup, it's safe! And the best thing too, to keep the milk flowing freely.

Thanks so much, I am pretty sure thats what it is now. Sorry for the TMI but it finally popped this morning with a tiny bit of blood and either milk or pus. I tried to squeeze everything out that I could and put some neosporin on it. Is it still safe to nurse on that side???

Something like that definitely can be scary looking! But it probably is just a bleb that has a bit of blood in it. A bleb is basically clogged milk in the nipple pore that has a thin layer of skin grown over it. If a capilary in the area bursts (from sucking or trying to squeeze the bleb) a bit of blood can get trapped too. Blood can look black after a while.

You can have your doctor take care of it or do it yourself if you feel confident enough.
