Breastfeeding and late period

Has anyone experienced lateness of period while breastfeeding, and not being pregnant? My period had begun (unfortunatelly, was hoping for a longer break as mine are quite painful) about 4 months post delivery. However, my third period since delivery is now over one week late. I feed on demand including at least twice a night.
I do know that breastfeeding is not a fail-proof contraceptive method.

i have been breastfeeding for 14 months until I got my 1st period. I have my period regularly for two months. My third period was delayed for two weeks, and I thought I was pregnant, but NO, im NOT. It was just delayed. This is maybe because Im continuously nursing my son.

Thanks everyone. Yes I have taken a test - it was negative YAY!

I was just wondering, as with my first child, once my period started ( around 6 mths postnatally ) it was pretty much on time from then on ( give or take a few days )... So was kind of expecting the same this time around. :-)

My little one is 7 months old now and we still breastfeed (he gets two meals a day solid food). I had my first period when he was 5 months and then it took a full 2 months for my second period to start. Very unpredictable....

My period didn't return till my daughter was 8 months old, which was right around the time I returned to work. Sometimes it lasted only 2-3 days and returned 3 weeks later, other times I had it for 7-8 days and didn't return for 6 weeks. It took about 5 months after getting my 1st post-delivery period to stable out.

I have the opposie I never had regular periods since puberty I only get maybe 2 to 3 periods a year. I started my peroid last month and I have had 2 in a row I don't think that has every happened naturally. I am still bfing my son who is 8 months old now. Remember your body has just been through some stress and I think that is still trying to get back to normal. I would consider taking a pregnancy test just to be on the safe side.

everyone is different....if you're unsure take a test just to be on the safeside and if you're not wanting to fall pregnant talk to your doctor about contraceptives... i'm breastfeeding and my doctor has me on the mini-pill which only contains one hormone instead of the usual 2 which makes it safe to use while breastfeeding... but you have to take it at the same time daily
