I have a 8 week old newborn and I always have been a smoker but since I was pregnant I cut down a lot! I still do smoke just 2 cigarettes a day...... I have been nursing my newborn day n night since she was born..... Just recently I have started to nurse her during the day and formula at night to get her to sleep more at night...... But I noticed now my milk supply I down by a lot! I have been taking fenugreek together and blessed thistle and pumping every 2-3 hours after nursing my baby and noticed a difference but after a while they stopped working..... I do drink about 24 oz of water every 2-3 hours and eat........ My question is is there any way to make my milk supply high again.... I want to still breast feed my baby but I have been giving more formula because there isn't really any milk coming out when I pump.........

The more formula you give, the lower your supply will get. The best was to increase supply is by nursing your baby. The emptier your breasts are, the quicker they make more milk. If the milk isn't removed, production slows down. You're supply would have started to be affected as soon as you offered that first bottle of formula.

And don't take pump output as gospel for determining your actual supply. Many women don't respond well to the pump, but can continue to feed their baby directly from the breast with no problem.

You want a better supply, start offering your baby the breast more often. Slowly cut back down on the formula. Make sure you're baby is getting enough by keeping track of pee diapers, and growth, not by hunger signs which are many times misinterpreted. How much formula are you giving your baby... how much in the bottle, and how many times. (oz per feeding, and oz of formula each day)????

I only give her formula once during the day ( 3 oz) only because my milk has not yet filled up fast enough for the next feeding..... I still put her to my breast even though she is not getting anything out...... Then I will pump after to try to get my milk back up again.....
