Breastfeeding, no period, feeling pregnant?

I have been breastfeeding my first child for 7 months now. I plan to continue to breastfeed. I have Not had a period since his birth. About 3 weeks ago (beginning of December) I experienced some light spotting for 3 days, then nothing. I've been nauseated on and off since then, and I have had menstrual like cramps as well, this whole time. My breasts are a little tender, but that has happened on and off from the beginning. I took a hpt that was negative. I almost feel "PMSy", but nothing has happened. My husband and I chose not to use any birth control. I'm just not sure what to do here. I do not want to go running to my doc for something like this, especially since she is 52 miles away. Is this Normal during breastfeeding? My son Is on solids, but has been since 4 months. I'm a bit confused, If this is normal, then okay. If I'm preggers, then great, If not, it's a bit soon anyway. If I'm gonna start a period then I would like to just get the darn thing done and over with.

I did not get my first period until my daughter was 14mths old. However, just because your breast feeding does not mean you cannot get pregnant. I have several friends who have babies very close together because they didn't think they could get of those friends took a home test 3 times and each time it came back negative, however she was pregnant. Her oldest son was 7 mths old at the time. You know your body best, if you think you might be go and see a doctor, the worst thing that could happen is your not and you waste a day. Good luck.

Sounds like it could be your cycle trying to return. But I wouldn't rule out pregnancy just yet. It is possible to get pregnant again before you get your first period back. And once you start feeding solids your fertility is much more likely to return.

When my period came back after my first baby it was very light spotting the first time too. I don't remember nausea, but certainly cramps. This time around I've had an IUD put in, and I do feel a touch of nausea each time I get a period (which I attribute to the IUD).

Since you're still breastfeeding are you still taking your prenatal vitamins? If not you should really consider getting back on them especially if you might be pregnant, or might be getting pregnant sometime soon.

My suggestion would be to wait a week and take another hpt. It's hard to diagnose pregnancy without a test just based on symptoms that are caused by hormonal changes, especially when breastfeeding itself creates hormonal changes.

Then, if you're still having symptoms contact your Dr.

Haven't seen my gyn yet, but my regular Dr said it's pretty normal actually to feel the way I've been feeling. He said his own wife felt that way for about 3 months before getting her period back with each of their kids. I figure I'll give it another couple of weeks, test again. If it's still negative any symptoms don't improve by Feb. I'll see my gyn. I'm still on prenatals since I'm still breastfeeding, also still watching what I eat for the same reason. So if I am preggers, at least I'm already taking care of myself in that regard. We'll see, but it sounds like it's pretty normal.

It's nice to see that this is relatively normal. Still nothing has happened, in either direction. If it turns out I am preggers, I'll keep you all posted. Thank you ladies for the opinions!

It sounds like your periods might be returning. If not, take a test in 2 weeks.

I am still breastfeeding and my son is almost 14months and I finally had my 1st period since I had had him a couple of weeks ago. I keep thinking I might be pregnant so I took tons of pregnancy tests over the past year and they all said negative. I wasn't sure if it was normal or not. It was comforting when I finally had a menstral cycle. It jus takes some time to start back up again I think anyway. Just keep taking tests if you feel like you are and wait. I know it sucks not knowing if and when you'll get your period. Good luck with everything and I hope that all makes sence. But like I said it took me 13months to get my first menstral cycle after having my son so it might jus be taking you awhile for your body to catch up. :-)
