I am currently tandem feeding my 8 month and 20 month old daughters. There is a possibility I am pregnant with our third (go figure,my husband has had a vasectomy and we use protection haha!).

Does anyone know if it is possible to continue breastfeeding my daughters and a newborn??Would love advice!

Thanks :)

Quoting Natalie:

Thank you all!!Really appreciate all of your comments and I will look up the info given :) Does anyone know how many calories you are supposed to take in when breastfeeding more than one??

I do! The rule of thumb is typically 300 calories per day per fetus while pregnant, and 500-600 calories per day per baby while breastfeeding. Adjust this with your activity level and so on, and you SHOULD be eating roughly 3500 calories per day for breastfeeding 3! Goooo cheesecake!

If you plan on stopping when your daughter turns 2 you would not have to worry about nursing 3. I don't think you would have a problem because (back in the day) my aunt nursed twins and a one year old.

i know of a woman who breastfed her sextuplets!

she was on oprah and said as such so i know you could do it as long as you are wanting to!

Yes! I breastfeed my twins exclusively and I have enough milk to help my sister feed her baby . You will need an ENORMOUS amount of calories, however.

I think nursing three this way would be even a little simpler than nursing triplets. By the time you have another baby, your oldest will be over 2 years old, so she'll be nursing more for comfort and antibodies than nutrition and calories. And the second will be well onto solid food, so even if you have some supply issues, the baby is the only one who's really relying on you for all of her nutritional needs.

Yeah, make sure you take care of yourself, and you should be able to pull it off, if you want to. Have fun! :-)

Good for you Mama. You are my hero. That is AMAZING!!! I'm sure it will be possible. By the time the baby is born, your oldest daughter will be old enough to understand some boundries when it is time for you to nurse your newborn and your other daughter. Your middle daughter may start to understand too. Proper nutrition and hydration will be key, along with lots of help and sleep. Once again, you are awesome.

Oh, P.S...Vasectomy + protection = baby? Holy moly...this baby must really be meant to be here on this planet. He or she will have great purpose.

You can. Just make sure you are taking care of your self and taking in enough nutrition and fluids. Your oldest might choose to stop due to the change in taste of milk. (Or not. I have one that woud nurse even if my breasts contained hot sauce.) Best wishes.

well since its supply and demand I guess its possible, but it would be hard work... I agree with Anna, you rock! lol. Since its one more baby than we have breasts I reckon its more than I could handle so I take my hat off to you!

Since supply follows demand I would think you'd be golden. I don't really have any advice but let me be the first to say woman you rock!
