What are you views or experiences on breastfeeding vs wholemilk? Whole milk seems overrated. Have any of you not offered your children cows milk? my son is such a picky eater and i feel as though he only gets what he needs from breastfeeding. He is a solid 25 lbs. too. Seems to work wonders when es sick to, like right now. Cant wait to hear what other moms think. Thanks

My 13mo son has yogurt and cheese, and I use milk in recipes when it's called for. He's never drunk cow's milk, though.

It's hilarious to me when people say a 1yo should be getting most of their nutrients from solids and not breastmilk. But if you look at a toddler's daily nutritional needs:

fruit/veggies -- 4 servings
protein -- 2 servings
grains -- 4 servings
dairy -- 16-24 oz
(a serving = 1 tablespoon x years)

you will see that dairy makes up most of it!

I'm just giving my baby species-specific "dairy" by so-called extended breastfeeding. (That terms gets on my nerves. Maybe early weaning should be called "breastmilk replacement.")

My son started getting cow's milk at random (probably once a week or so) after a year, but MOST of his milk was breastmilk til 2... or over. Even when he weaned at 3.25 years he went from nursing 1-5 times/day straight to nothing. He still doesn't drink milk every day though.

My MIL insisted once or twice to try her on whole milk and I didn't object because Nina was over a year and I knew she wouldn't drink it anyway. Apparently she was dehydrated... Anyway. In the past 2 years it has always been breastmilk or water, bar a few times were she had a sip of my juice when in someone else's house. My partner gave her a bit of milk the other day and she seemed to like it, so now I generally ask at meal times if she wants milk or water. Generally she still asks for water and then halfway through asks to come on my lap and have some boobie with her meal (actually she matter-of-factly moves her plate over first, lol).
Anyway, breastmilk is much better than dairy, I probably wouldn't have thought about starting her on it myself. She eats yoghurt though.

My twin boys, I want to say 18 months? They're 5 now and one of them still isn't a fan but the other one likes it. My older daughter was 12 months but she still doesn't like it (she's 9)

My view is that mama's milk IS whole milk. Mama's milk is much better than milk coming from another species.

Having said that, I DO drink milk but not often.
