I am breastfeeding and have heard that it can make your menstral cycle weird. But I had a normal period about a month or two ago and now there is nothing. Could I be pregnant and should I go have a test???

I had a normal cycle every 30 days. I was using the standard day method. for the last year. I am currently nursing my 16 month old and missed a cycle. I took 3 tests that came back negative. Waited a week, and took another and it came back positive! So, yes you could be pregnant.

You could be pregnant, you should test. Also your period can be irregular for a while after it comes back... but i would test.

Smrity - you could possibly be pregnant again. Though I think 10 days late while breast feeing isn't outside the "norm" even if you've had several regular cycles.
For me, the first symptom I had when I got pregnant with my 2nd was pain while breastfeeding. My first was 21 months old, and it became quite painful each time she latched on. At first I suspected thrush. But really, the symptoms are going to be about the same as for any pregnancy. They will differ from woman to woman, and they may be the same as previous pregnancy symptoms you experienced, or they may be different this time.
Get a home EPT and do a test first thing in the morning.

It does sound like a Dr's visit is needed. Always good to make sure nothing is going wrong.

Sharon - technically it IS possible that you are pregnant again. However it's much more likely that your cycle hasn't gotten back on track yet. Breastfeeding or not, it can take months for you cycle to go back to being regular (assuming you were regular before you got pregnant). And if you are breastfeeding, that decreases your chances of ovulating too. It doesn't make it impossible, and once your period has come back you just need to assume you could get pregnant again and take proper precautions if you don't want to be pregnant again yet... or ever :).

If you think you are, get a home test. Either way you'll know.

I'm in the same boat! I had my son in January I bled for 6 weeks and it stopped and I got my periodon march 17th which is pretty regular... But I haven't had a period since and I even suppliment in between breastfeeding.... I've taken about 20 home tests and all negative but I have been gaining weight and heartburn and what almost feels like movement! But I don't know if its just gas but I remember taking many tests with my son and it not showing positive for over 3 months and I also had a short period for those 3 months i made an appointment with my doctor for next week so hopefully a blood test will tell me forsure

i had my son in november and had the regular bleeding after pregnancy and then maybe a week or so later i had what i thought was my period. well, he's six months now and i've taken 2 pregnacy tests that have come back negative and i still haven't had a period. i'm planning on going to the dr for a yearly and i will ask her what is going on. but i did read that while you're breastfeeding, which i am, you may not have a period. i have also heard that breastfeeding is a form of birth control, although usually unreliable. but, i'd take a home test first before going to the dr and give it another week and take another, if still after another week no period, it wouldn't hurt to call and make an appointment. good luck, hope the results are what you want!

I had one period after having my son (when he was about 6 months old) and getting pregnant with my daughter - they are 15 months apart - and I haven't had a period since (extended breastfeeding + using a mirena)! I'd suggest taking a test. :)

well i was very irregular after my son was born. then i had two in a row and was waiting for the next one as i was gonna start natural family planning so needed to start on the first bleed. never came then had a scan (unrelated to pregnancy) and i was 6wks.!! get a test done i reckon

I had my first period 5 weeks after my daughter was born and then not again until she was 5 months old. I think this is proof that it can be very unpredictable. I might be nice for you to take a test just to ease your mind. I did that a couple of months ago and now have an extra one around just in case. Good luck and try not to worry.

If you are not using contriceptive you can absolutly get pregnant. But my periods are weird also I had 2 normal and since then they have been weird . If you have an IUC or IUD they can mess with your period too. I would get a test or talk with your doctor.

If you've had sex without any sort of birth control. Buy a test or see your doctor.

I'm experiencing the weird cycle, myself, and I know wondering about a possible pregnancy would drive me absolutely crazy! Yes, you could be pregnant, and I think taking a test will put your mind at ease.

Wishing you the best!

I would take a test just to be sure. :) But, from my experience, I have found that my period acted so strange after pregnancy, breastfeeding, and during birth control use, etc. I had my first period 6 months after my son was born & it was normal. Then a month later I had my 2nd period. It lasted 12 days. Then like 2 weeks later I had ANOTHER period. Ugggh! I didn't know what the heck was going on with me haha. It might be just hormones and your body trying to regulate, etc. But, do test just to put your mind at ease. Good luck :)

If you think your prgnant take a test. My daughter was 3 and half months when I got pregnant again. I was stricktly nursing her. I didnt even get a period. I just felt like I was pregnant. So I thought hey im gonna take a test and it was positive. Now I have a 16month old and a two month old. Now I am nursing my two month old and my period is so weird I cant even tell you, I am also on the IUD tho so who knows. Just go with your gut. Take a test if you feel you need to... GOOD LUCK!!

If you think you're pregnant, taking a test is the one way to know for sure. My menstrual cycle started when my son was 11 months old. It was 6 weeks until my next one. I did take a test because I thought I was pregnant. I wasn't though and my cycles were around 6 weeks long. A couple cycles later, I did get pregnant.
