i went to the doctor and i was advised not to breastfeed my son for a few days. since he's been breastfed since birth only, only thing that consoled him was the breast. i suggest to my mom that she "breastfeed" him so that he'd calm down. i'm in another room and she screams my name. i'm thinking he bit her, but no. she's lactating! my youngest sibling is 18 years old now. she re-lactated after all these years. it was beyond weird but cool at the same time!

It's funny isn't it? I remember my Mother complaining about leaking after when her first grandson was born. Just from cuddling him. Guess she'd always been a good cow. The body is amazing. I bet your son is thrilled with this discovery!

Even if you haven't. It's been proven that any woman with a uterus can breastfeed even if you have never been pregnant. We aren't the only mammals that can do it. There has been studies on cats and dogs, etc.
Good on you for accepting what is best for your son and being comfortable enough to ask your mother for help!

teresa makes a good point...i was so amazed by your mother re latctating i didn't even think about why you were advised to not breastfeed! would you enlighten us?

That is neat, but I don't understand why your doctor would advise against you breastfeeding your son.

Wow!!! That is amazing! I think it is so wonderful that you could ask your mom to do that for you and that she would! So many people are freaked out by it, but it's no weirder than cuddling a baby to comfort them imo! That is so neat!

WOW! the human body is incredible and i think its very sweet that you asked for your moms help with that...cross nursing is so taboo in american culture that even when people do it, it isn't talked about. good for you for knowing what your babe needed and its super cool that your moms body still knew what to do!
