My mom watches my DD at her house during the day and she has been extra fussy lately and there is nothing she can do to make her happy and my mom said that it doesn't seem like my bm is keeping her satisfied and that she thinks my DD is telling us she needs something more. So I bought organic rice csteal and have fed it to her once and day mixed with my bm since 8-29. Was that a huge mistake?! I just want to do what's best for my daughter I don't want to do anything wrong. She seems to be digesting it easily and has no problems and she leans in for more when im feedomg her, but i dunno. When did you start offering rice cereal? Do you think I should go back to exclusively bf? What did you do at this age?

Rice cereal is binding and therefore not a good first food for a baby. It also has little nutritional value. If you think she needs/is ready for solids, I'd start with something more nutritional like avocado. I started my son at almost 5 months and I regretted it big time. It filled up his tummy so much that A) he had constipation problems and B) it messed with my milk supply . If your daughter is younger than 6 months, I'd go back to EBFing. Children can survive on just breastmilk for the first year of life. Food for fun until they're one is the quote! Although, realistically, they can even survive until age 2 on just BM, I wouldn't recommend that. I personally would go back to EBF until her first birthday or until she can pick up food with her fingers and feed herself (whichever comes first) .

Ww also skipped rice cereal it doesn't really provide anything nutritional and can cause constipation problems. We didn't start solids till 6 months fruits and veggies, when we started it was an ounce once or twice a day and it was only offered after my daughter was breastfed. Like April said food before one is just for fun!
