Discouraged by my ability to BF! Advice needed on production

Baby was jaundice after birth-- I was told to supplement with formula in the hospital (via SNS) to get enough urine output for baby to go home.

Now 2 weeks after baby home, I have to supplement *again* because baby is losing weight since I've been exclusively BFing. I'm only 2 weeks into it, but very discouraged by the baby weight loss.

I BF, then pump after to encourage milk supply. My pump output is averaging only a third of an ounce! Met with a lactation consultant twice, she says baby needs 2 ozs per feeding. Is it even possible to increase milk production from 1/3oz to 2 oz??

All the while I feel like a stressed out bad mom that I can't give my LO what she needs. :( Baby latches well, gets a few good suck/ swallows and then gets lazy and sleepy. When getting her bottle formula supplement, she goes at it with so much enthusiasm! What's a reasonable timeframe to look for an increase in production? I try to keep in perspective that I've only been at it for 2 weeks, but It's so stressful and weighing heavy on my mind that I'm starting to contemplate the switch to formula only, which has helped baby gain weight and chub up.

Any experience or advice is appreciated!

Ok. First thing for sure. RELAX RELAX RELAX. Stressing puts a damper on your supply more than ANYTHING.

When your baby seems that she is getting sleepy, you will need to stimulate her to wake her. I had trouble waking my sleepy baby at first but it gets easier.

As far as how much you're pumping, the pump only pulls what is at the surface. Your baby is really the best way to get the supply flowing.. When i was in doubt I bought Mothers Milk Tea an it helped a great deal! I know it's tough right now but it takes a while to get every thing together. You have to remember your baby is learning just like you are. Don't Give Up!
