Does anyone else's baby hit themselves in the head while nursing?

My 4 1/2 mo old girl has just started this new "tick" while nursing. She uses her free hand (the one not pinned under me) to hit herself in the head. She used to just hold onto my hand or shirt while nursing. But, at least half the time now, she just hits herself. Is this normal? I know some babies are "head bangers", and don't know if this goes along with that. I am trying to figure out if I should call the doctor or if it's just one of those things that some babies do.

My 7-month old son just started doing this as well and it is a little disturbing! I'm glad to hear others have the same issue. I usually just calmy grab his hand and stroke it softly to try to discourage him.

Yep, mine did that too - for quite awhile. Now he prefers to pinch me on the arm while he nurses. They are just exploring and trying new things. Nothing to worry about.

Lol. Yep. My own 11 month old used to do that too.

You know what? It's just something she figured out she can do. Next she'll learn that she can shove her hands into your cleavage while nursing and that will be the new hit.

Mine does that, too. And kicks his legs wildly. It makes nursing discreetly in public a bit of a challenge. Oh well. :-)

Yup... my son started it when he was about 4 months and still does it now at 13 months. I tried nursing necklaces to give him something to play with... nope... he would hold his "na" (pacifier) and just keep hitting himself with it...
