DS not BF with cold

My DS has had a bad cold for over a week now which has made it extremely difficult for him to BF and he has cut back on how much he BF a lot. He was getting dehydrated so I gave him extra bottles (he normally gets one a day in the evening with Dada) as he could drink from the bottle with less difficulty. He is starting to get better now but will only BF for a few minutes now before getting frustrated and mad and then stopping. He is only 10.5months old and I was not planning to start weaning him this early at all - is this something he will get over when the cold finishes or am I just going to lose some of my BF sessions now? :(

He'll most likely pick up where he left off once the cold clears! Before nursing try running a hot shower with the bathroom door closed and then once its steamy take him in there and sit for 5-10 minutes (it will help drain his sinuses) then if you have a really good aspirator you could use that before nursing.
Good luck and dont worry Im sure hes just frustrated that he cant nurse as well right now!

Oh goodness...this brings back memories to my dd at this age. First, he may be much more efficient at nursing by this age that he is actually getting more than you might think. Second, I tried to make sure my dd had her nose suctioned a few minutes before nursing, to make it as comfortable as possible.
Finally, my daughter went on many nursing strikes/semi-strikes between the ages of 8 and 18 months (the last lasting 3 weeks!). Each time, I was sure to pump when she would normally have eaten, and then offer her water instead, trying to encourage her back to nursing. You can also attempt to really slow back on any food he is getting, to again, encourage the nursing. Good luck and I hope he is back to his usual self soon!
