Extreme pain on right breast while feeding,

[deleted account] ( 2 moms have responded )

I had my son about 2 1/2 weeks ago. I've gone through the cracked and bleeding stage. He feeds and latches well on the left breast. But despite latching well on my right, it hurts really bad. I almost cry each time.

The only way I can get him to latch on correctly to the right breast is with the football hold. Even then (although better) the pain is intense. It is steaming further into my breast. So not from the nipple or areola. The pain sometimes only lasts a few seconds, other times almost a minute, but never for the entire feeding.

I also seem to produce a lot more milk from the right. He actually coughs and chokes on it (it was the same with my daughter as well).

I can't afford to see a lactation consultant. So I'm basically on my own.

It can be tender when I'm not feeding but, not too bad. I am wondering if it is let down pain, especially since it seems to go away after a point.

Thank you for the link, I'll look into finding someone.

Feel around for a clogged duct. Also, do you have pain any other time? Or any itching or burning? Do you notice the pain during the letdown? I had a pretty painful letdown with my first.
