My daughter is 7 1/2 months old. She started cereal at 4 1/2 and has been progressing great. She prefers "real" food over baby food. Her favorite is cottage cheese. She especially loves anything she can pick up herself. She also eats Cheerios, puffed rice, baked potato, pasta, vegetables. I am looking for suggestions of other foods to try. Thanks!!

You can cut up cheese, either in tiny cubes, or small sticks..whatever you think she can handle. Have you tried the Earth's Best teething biscuits? My son LOVES them! Kiwi, bananas, pineapple tidbits, and pears are usually soft enough for baby to mash with her gums too. Oh, and pasta (like the piccolini, or other small shapes), while messy, is generally good.

You can try baked apples. When they cool they are solid enough for baby to pick up yet mushy enough that they can eat without worry.Carrots are good. My son likes them when I make chicken soup with large chunks of carrot. It adds some flavor to them. Another things that I have found is green beans and broccoli are a new fav when they are cooked enough to be mushy as well.

hey there,

i like to roast sweet potato, squash then cut them into sticks. also, i'll toast some whole wheat breast spread some pureed turkey and break it off like little sandwiches (you can do the same with cheese). my son loves it when i steam some frozen vegges--they are already cut and cleaned in the right size.

My son has 6 teeth now, but when he started eating table food he only had 1. As long as it's soft enough and small enough to be swallowed even if not chewed properly, it should be fine. Of course, you always want to supervise a new eater!

Thanks for all the great ideas :)
Sunni Chea Capehart- She doesnt have any teeth yet, but she gums really good :) Even when babies do get their front teeth, they dont use them to chew.

Pitta bread with melted cheese or in teh style of a mini pizza instead - you can change the toppings, have it hot or cold and baby can hold it! Winner! x

wow, how many teeth do your babies have? Mine only has her two bottom teeth and they aren't even fully out yet, so I dont think I can give her all these yummy things yet.

I've given him most kinds of cheese, of course babies won't appreciate Feta, or Sharp Cheddar, or other cheeses with strong flavors, but anything else should be fine!! We've never had a problem with pineapple, Drew loves it...I actually put it in one of those "feeder"/teether things.
