many women here have taken it, myself included ! as far as i am aware it is safe for the baby, of course excess of anything is bad for everyone. I beleive the recommended max dose is 3 pills 3x daily. you need to smell, sweat and pee eau de fenugreek !! LOL i took it only 2 days passed noticing my supply increase and let the baby keep my supply up with his intake. now that is just what i did, im sure others do it differently !

Wow, Mandy, good for you! The suggestion to pump while you nurse is great; you can train your body to let down for the pump.

Avg output is .5-2 oz, so don't expect too much!

Practice nursing in front of a mirror at home and you can see what shows and not which may help with nursing in public. Or can you nurse in a carrier? I understand you, though. :) I gave a pumped bottle of milk out in public for the first month, in my car or the bathroom (*shudder*) until she was 3 months old, and now I nurse in public everywhere. Just took time and practice.

Good luck!

just keep nursing him at that rate and your supply will boost naturally. hell eventually over time get more per feed, and go longer between feeds. Most shopping centers and the like should have nursing rooms or family rooms you can use. Ive used them and they arent so bad ! they have a bench, chair, ive even seen love seats. I mean their may be another mom or 2 in there, but its alot better than your boob hanging out in the food court :)

you still need to pump at the same rate you feed so allthough you could miss a feed or 2 and pump when you get home, its kinda counterproductive to increasing your supply.

do some looking into the places you want to go, and call and find out what kind of facilities are available to afford you some privacy while nursing.

I also dont nurse out among the public when i go out. I either do it in the car in the parking lot or use the parenting facilities.

well I just wanted to be able to go out and its hard for me to nurse in public due to my stupid boobs lol the only position we can do is football and its hard to do that in public. When my son was born I thought breast feeding wasnt for me so he formula fed for 4 days then i changed my mind its been a struggle bc i supplimented for a long time.He never had nipple confusion and does fine on a bottle Im proud to say that ive strictly BF for a whole week now but he likes to eat every hour or hour and half

i have asked that same question here and it went unanswered, so im no help there.

i personally did not experience a loss of supply when i stopped taking it. I kept making enough to feed a 22lbs 6 month old and pump once a day, as that is what my child and pumped demanded.

you really dont want to run into oversupply issues either, because they can cause a whole mess of problems on their own, some with negative effects on the baby.

some women have a very hard time letting down to a pump. If babe is satisfied with one breast per feed, you can pump the other side while she is nursing. you should get more that way.

regardless of supply, some women can only yeild about 1/2 -2oz combined when pumping. then there are others like me who can freakishly pump 6-10oz. it definitely takes practice.

a good double electric pump will help as well, stimulating both brest simultaneous will result in a better let down. keep pumping atleast 5 minutes after the milk stops flowing, becuase you will do 2 things, either have another let down, or will atleast stimulate the breasts to think they need more milk.

can i ask why you need to pump and store ? im not sure how old your baby is, but remember your breast milk is always changing to meet baby's needs as they change, so milk that was pumped when baby was a newborn, will not have what a 6 month old needs. and milk pumped at 6 months wont sustain a 12 month old.

I have a good stash of milk myself, however i use the older stuff for mixing with cereal. I pull out the freshly squeezed stuff for any bottle feedings if i am not with baby or plan to have a drink or 2 and wont be able to nurse.

also your body makes more milk in the morning, so try and get your sessions in then as you might get more milk.

some tricks to help with let down are : have a peice of your baby's clothing or a blanket near by to smell. a picture of your baby, or look at your baby if its around. i also would take a nice deep relaxing breath and close my eyes and just imagine cradling and nursing little one if my milk wasnt flowing , worked everytime !!

i've been taking fenugreek for a couple months now.. Once you start you have to keep taking or your milk supply will decrease again.. I take 12 pills total a day!!! 4, 3 times a day with food.. It seems like a lot but the results are a plus!! My son was born big and had a high demand for milk so for me to be able to feed him, and pump an additional 20 oz or so a day,.. somethings working!! But i forgot to take it 2 days in a row and it decreased fast! thats the only down fall. As far as harmful to the baby; i haven't noticed anything other then smelly poo.. but it helps him go better ive noticed! i'd just ask your pediatrician
