If a baby doesn't finish a bottle of thawed breastmilk (not warmed) should you toss it, return to fridge or leave it at room temp to see if he'll take it again? How long can thawed breastmilk be left in fridge and/room temp after being taken out for a feeding? And if you did warm it, should you toss the rest after the feeding?

My pediatrician advised me to discard any remaining breast milk leftover in the bottle once the baby is done feeding, due to bacteria transfer from the baby's mouth to the milk causing the milk to become contaminated.
If you thaw out 6oz. And assume your baby will only drink 4oz., separate the remaining 2oz. In a different bottle to prevent a possible bacteria transfer.
And I've also read that breast milk should only be left at room temp. For 6-8 hours.
Hope this was helpful.
