Hardcore workouts and nursing

Hey Ladies,



Recently I have been making lifestyle changes. Sadly my weight ballooned to over 210lbs by my 6 week postpartum visit. Now i'm down to 195lbs and looking to lose between 30-40 lbs. To assist in meeting my goals I do P90X daily plus step aerobics 3 times a week. I have also changed my diet. We cut pork and beef out of our diet, eat more veggies and have switched to multigrain and wholewheat in bread and pasta. We've limited ourselves to 1 dessert a week. After workouts we started doing fruit smoothies with spinach and carrots (taste great by the way, you can't taste them at all and its a good way to get extra veggies). We also don't eat any fast food, nothing fried, and no sodas.



With all the extra workouts I wonder if I should be taking protein. I'm usually very sore for days after my workouts. Yesterday I bought Pro Performance AMP Amplified Wheybolic Extreme 60 which has whey protein isolate in it (sources say this is the best kind). So, my question is can I take this while nursing? Is there anything else I can take to help with recovery after my workouts?



All advice appreciated although i'd really be interested in hearing from women who workout regularly and may or may not be taking suppplements themselves. Thanks

First of all, Congrats on being commited to living a healthy lifestyle! Gradual weight loss has not been found to affect your milk supply. So the standard healthy 1-2 lb weight loss a week should be fine. Since brestfeeding burns lots of calories you should not go below 1800 calories. My boys are big now..but when I was breastfeeding them I did1 1/2 hours each day six days a week of cardio plus yoga & strenght training and had planty of milk for my babies.
I Love PX90 have done it myself, I just eat well balanced meals lean protiens and lots of water. I also take a multi-vitamin-which is fine when breastfeeding. My favotite mulit-vitamin is from beach body. When I was training for a half-marathon I did take whey protien shakes..but I don't think it made that big of a diffence. Hang in there eventually the pain will stop :)

Oh yeah..since you are limiting your food intake & breastfeeding its a good idea to eat foods high in calcium, zinc, magnesium, vitamin B6 and folate.

i also purshased the wheybolic protein and he told me it was fine to take while breastfeeding..i also read the label its doesnt have any warnings is just simply a supplement . but other proteins have warnings and are not safe to take while breast feeding.

Yeah I agree, I wouldn't be using the extra powder stuff and all that. The weight will come off if you just eat healthy and nursing also helps. But hardcore working out can make your milk supply go down.

I heard a little while ago, that two large glasses of milk after a work out, was much more effective then more protine in a diet.

Personally I would not take any man made power drink, nursing or not. Everything you need in life, is in fresh foods, what you can do though is take a prenatal multi Vit daily.
