Has anyone else had to pump due to health reasons?

My daughter is almost 5 months old and is still in the NICU (3 month preemie)
She is still being tube fed so I've been pumping for this entire time and I'm starting to dry up. I'm taking suppliments to help production in the hopes of one day when she's able to bottle feed trying her on the breast (also it's better for preemies) Should I have hopes for one day, if I can increase my production, being able to breast feed her or should I just get ready to spend the rest of the time pumping and bottle feeding her?

I would talk to the lactation consultant at your daughter's hospital. My son was in ICU for a week, so I had to pump but after that he was able to start nursing. I still had to pump after I nursed him for a couple months b/c he wasn't strong enough to take everything by mouth. It was hard work but so worth it. 5 months is a very long time to go with out nursing. But way to go with the pumping. What a dedicated mom! I do know someone who is still pumping and her son is a year and a half so it's possible but hard work. Have you tried taking Fenugreek? It's a herbal supplement that helps with production. Again I recommend talking to a lactation specialist at the hospital.
