My 3 1/2 month old is going to day care while I work. I am lucky enough to have 1 workday at home per week and of course the weekend. She was slow to take bottles at first, but now that she's getting 3 a day from daycare, she's better. But today (my first day of work at home), she is not taking the breast very well. She turns her head a lot, wanting to look around, wiggling, and is pretty fussy. I also have flat/inverted nipples, so we have always used a shield to give her something to latch to, with no problems. But with all the head turning and wiggling she's doing, it's really hard to keep the shield in place, which makes her fuss more, thrash around, while I'm trying to get it centered again. I don't know if it's a bottle to breast issue or if she's just more mobile because she's getting bigger. I don't want to hold her still, she's going to grow up and move even more of course, but I don't know what else might help. Any advice? Will she adjust on her own or is this something I need to work on?

I do wet the shield first so it sticks, but when she yanks her head around suddenly, it goes flying - ouch!! I imagine I will be using a shield forever - I have tried to stop using it but then there is just nothing for her to latch to - they just won't draw out. She does eat better at night, so the dark room is a good idea, I'll try the blanket thing too. Anybody else have tips?

my son does that too!! the advice i got from our la leche league consultant was to lick the shield before putting it on yourself, it will stay in place better..i am still using a shield at 4.5 months!! as for the moving her head thing..try a dark room at first so she has nothing to look at, or a blanket over your shoulder over her as well...hope these tips are somewhat usefull!
