Fierna is a week old and I'm tandem breastfeeding her and my two year old son Eric.
Eric was nursing alot and I could tell that he was building a bigger supply then Fierna needed. So she was getting tons of formilk and she was spitting up alot, burping a ton, and really fussy. So I assigned each one a breast so she could regulate her own supply. Well it's been two days since put her on one side only and it's still making alot more then she needs! She chokes and sputters when I let down, dribbles out alot as she eats, and is very burpy and fussy after eating. She pulls off when I let down and fights with the breast until it slows down.

Any advise?

Poop is quite yellow, not green or mucous-y. pLENTY of wet diapers and she never lost any weight. She's up 8oz as of three days ago.

I had pretty severe oversupply with my first. I would sometimes just have to take her off during letdown and I caught the milk in my pump bottle so it wasn't wasted. I could also catch up to 2 oz from the non-nursed side. I combined this milk with pumped milk and was able to donate over 300 oz. It didn't take long for my daughter to become big enough to handle the fast letdown. I had oversupply issues until I got pregnant again lol. When I nursed in public I just used her burp cloth to catch the milk until it slowed a little. It should even up soon by only nursing one side. Congrats!! I'm so excited for you! We only have 9 more weeks and so far my daughter is still nursing.

I would suggest pumping a bit to get the letdown over with before putting her on the breast. That will also allow some of the foremilk to be gone and she can have the nice hindmilk. I had the same problem with my daughter but she learned to just unlatch herself and now she gets sprayed in the face regularly. I know it seems like a huge problem right now but it will even itself out and everything will be fine.

well for the fast let down i have been there and i know alot of woman with that same problem. the only way and the best way i have known that works have a towel ready. and as she nurses to bring the milk down, bring off of the breast and manually pump some of it out, if its like me it shoots out lol. once its done shooting out or you think you have gotten the flow under control put her back on to finish nursing. and in time your body will regulate but it takes a few days, and the fast let down takes a little longer, my fast let down lasted for the first month.

It's working well, it's a but hard cuz Eric wants to nurse every time Fierna does, which is all the time, so I do tell him no and wait quite a bit. But I absolutely adore nursing Eric still, sometimes we tandem feed both together, but usually I make Eric wait until Fierna is asleep or daddy has her, then Eric and I have time alone.
I feel like Eric benefits alot from it because he is learning well about patience etc, but he still gets that bonding time with me. And it helps me remember he still needs one on one time too. And when I feed them together it's awesome because Eric is able to rub her head or hold her hand and he likes her alot! I still breastfeed Eric to sleep for nap, night, and usually once in the early morning. So these times are great for him to bond with me still, and through the day it's here and there if I let him nurse.
Overall its great, and it is way better then me making Eric wean before he is ready. I'd imagine weaning hum then breastfeeding the baby would be simply awful. I couldn't do that. So I'll let Eric wean whenever he wants, and I'll make it work! It's worth it.

With my first son who is 20 months now and still breastfeeding, I ended up having to BF him laying down so he didn't choke and it didn't come out as strong. It helped a lot. Now I am 6 months prego again and curious how the tandum BF is working.

Thanks Sara! How exciting she lasted the whole pregnancy! Tandem is fun, and hard. But oh so worth it :)
I put Eric in cradle hold and Fierna in football hold and it works great!
