Help with weaning

To my dismay I have to wean my 7 month old daughter. I have Lupus, and now rheumatoid arthritis and really can't go without taking my medication. My doctor told me I'm going to put myself in the hospital if I don't start taking care of myself. The meds aren't good for baby so I have to cut her off. The trouble is she won't take a bottle or sippy cup. She screams like we're trying to kill her. Everyone keeps telling me that if I just take away the boob, she'll get hungry enough and eat eventually. I'd rather not have to resort to that. I would really appreciate any advice or suggestions you may have.

if you have been trying to give her formula, i would recommend trying to express milk and see if she will take that...if it is possible for you. the formula along with the bottle/sippy might just be too much for a change for her, and expressing milk might make the transition easier.

have you tried having someone else give her the bottle/sippy while you are completely out of sight? sometimes if they know mom is around they will refuse anything other than the boob.

keep trying different cups and bottles until you find one she doesn't mind...it would be easiest if you can get her to take the sippy cup, so you don't have to worry about weaning off bottles but some babes take a long time to get used to the sippy cup (my son refused sippy cups until he was 10 or 11 months). i've heard great things about the "breastflow" bottles made by "the first years."

its really great that you breastfed this long, despite your illness. good luck, and i hope the transition gets easier for you!

We got the Breastflow bottle, and she will kinda drink from it without screaming as badly. So I think there's hope. Thanks for the suggestion Jennifer.

Erika I'm sorry you're going through this too. Hearing your child scream like that is awful.
