How can I get my 8 month old to fall asleep without it being by breastfeeding?

This is my third and I've not had this problem before, my 8 month old will only go to sleep (inc naps, bedtime, middle of the night wake ups...) unless I b/f her to sleep, i really want her to learn to fall asleep by herself (espescially so she can soothe herself to sleep at night instead of waking me up 2/3 times) but not sure how to do it.

She refuses bottles, soothers, teethers, ect... I tried to let her cry but the first time I gave in after 1 hour and the next time after 1.5 hours.

I think she is using me as her pacifier, any ideas?

try the book, the Baby whisperer solves all your problems, you can read it online at google books i think.

i love this book. several chapters are based on sleep and teaching little ones to fall asleep on their own. she explains a pick up/ put down method in geat detail which is used to break sleeping habits and teaches the child to sleep on its own.

that book is my bible ! it has yet to fail me !
