i am confused as to how long breast milk can be in a fridge for. i have a magnet that came with my pump and it says 8 days if fresh and never frozen but then i keep reading these booklets and they say 24 hours if fresh and never frozen. which one is it?

It can be kept in a fridge for up to 8 days. It depends on how well you pumped and stored it (how clean everything was, where it's stored in the fridge, etc). If breast milk is bad it will smell sour and taste rancid. You would know if it has gone bad.

I never hear 8 days in the fridge! I was always told 3-5 days in the fridge.

thank you for clarifying that for me. i do know how bad it can get. i once found a 5 oz bottle in the fridge and knew while opening it to pour it out that we've been using 9 oz. bottles for months. GAG! i dont have a dirty fridge though. lol just a certain some one (cough cough, hubby) likes to put things on the top shelf sometimes. we have a mommy milk section so its not like i would have gotten confused. i thought 24 hours seemed a bit off. you'd laugh if i told you what i was reading that clearly stated that fresh pumped milk last 24 hours. hahahaa stupid formula booklets with the wee bit section on breastfeeding. i should post a picture of it. ;)
