How many BM should a 14 week old have?

Katie - posted on 12/05/2010 ( 3 moms have responded )

My son is 14 weeks and I am breastfeeding. He used to have at least two or three BM in a 24 hour period. It has now been a day in a half with out him going. He wets his diapers often and does not seem gassy or uncomfortable. Maybe I am worried about nothing. But still would like to know whats common and if he is okay. Please any input would be greatly appreciated...... Thanks :)

totally normal, and is one of the many perks of exclusively breastfeeding! in the beginning, even after your milk has come in, there is still colostrum in the milk. colostrum is a laxative so they poop very often in the beginning. once you have your mature milk in, your babe will start pooping less frequently. all the nutrients in breast milk get used by the body so very little gets wasted. be forewarned though, he likely will have a diaper blowout when it is time to go!

as my son got older, he would go less and less frequently. right before he started solids he would poop about once every 7 days. as long as your little one is not uncomfortable, and is still wetting regularly, just enjoy it :)

Ditto Jennifer! I breastfed all 3 of my kids and about that age, they would go about once every 5 days or so. When they did, it was a HUGE blowout! LOL
