How many months postpartum did you get your period?

My son is almost 6 months, and I still have not gotten my period. I know that it is different for everyone, but I'm curious as to when everyone got their period postpartum while nursing.
(FYI--I've taken a pregnancy test, so I know I'm not pregnant)

My son is almost 18 months & I still haven't got my period back :(.

I am still breastfeeding on demand but everyone I know who is doing the same thing all got theirs back many many months ago.

While it was nice not having to deal with it every month, I want it back now & I'm starting to feel weird that I haven't gotten it back yet.

I started just this past month. My daughter is 3 months. Could it hurt my milk supply?

Hey Jolene!  It will only affect your supply if you don't drink enough fluids.  Since you're losing extra fluids during your period, you may have to drink more than normal to keep milk production up.  Otherwise it's not a problem at all!  I've been breastfeeding for a year after getting mine.  :)

Got my first period six weeks after the birth of my daughter. AND I was exclusively breastfeeding! Guess I'm just one of those lucky ones. :-/

My first child was about 12 months when it came, I nursed until she was 16 months, now second child is 15 weeks and looking forward to the year without it!

I had one at six months, one at twelve months, one at eighteen months and then randomly every 6-8 weeks until he weaned himself at 27 months.

My daughter is 6 months old and no sign of my periods yet but I'm not expecting them for a little while yet as with my eldest it took about 9 months before they returned. Enjoy not having periods- make the most of it!!

Well, I never had one with my first son. I just got pregnant again right around his first birthday. Now that my 2nd son will be one next week I'm expecting AF to make her return any time now. I'm dreading it. The past 4 years without periods have been lovely!

Sounds like my story! My first son was 9 months and I got pregnant with my second...it has been wonderful not to have AF for such a long time! Also dreading the day I have to deal with it!

8 months, when I stopped breastfeeding. I am a big fan of family planning so I was happy to get my period!

It was 7 or 8 months, but then I went a few months without another. Evan's 13 months now and I'm still really irregular. He's weaned himself down to 2 feeds. Although his morning feed seems to be on it's way out and he usually goes to sleep in the middle of his bedtime feed, so he's probably not breastfeeding much at all now. Anyone else coming to the end of breastfeeding and still having irregular periods?

I breastfed my daughter until she was 12 months, my cycles didn't reappear until she was about 16 months old!

I read somewhere that 50% of mom's get their period around the 6 month mark if they are still nursing. For my first it was around 6 months, and I got my period around 8 months for my second. I have a friend who didn't get hers until around the one year mark, so I think it is different for everyone.

I wouldn't worry too much my daughter is 15 months and I haven't had a period yet. I didn't get one when I had my son till I stopped feeding him at 7 months.

It is definitely different for everyone.  I recently had my 7th.  And for everyone of them, I had postpartum bleeding for nearly 6 weeks, always doing too much too fast, then began my period within days of the post partum bleeding ending.   Until Erin was born, my youngest, I have never used formula and held off on solids until they were about 6 months old.  Have been having some issues with my milk supply this time and am, unfortunately, having to supplement with formula some while the milk comes back up.  But still started right away :(

It's not even fair!!! I nurse Jake exclusively, and I got my period 7 weeks after he was born. Apparently my body considers itself a baby-making machine!!!

[deleted account]

I went 15 months postpartum, but I went on the micronor birth control pill after 6 weeks. I just went off it last month and got my first period in 2 years!

I got my first post-partum period when my daughter was 3 months old.  I thought it would be a lot longer, but nope!  I was pretty shocked when I got it and didn't think it would be for quite some time, but there it was!  I'm still breastfeeding her as well, and have had 2 normal periods since then.

I did not get mine for a year and a half after having my daughter. I nursed for the ful year too. So don't worry, it is normal for some women to not get a period for months when they are nursing.

With 1st (born Dec) I never got it as I became pregnant in August. I started feeding him cereal at 4 months (Apr), and would have had a period when he was 8 months (Aug).

With 2nd (born May) I first got my period when she turned 13 months. I started to feed cereal at 6 months, but she never liked it, so I would say it was more like a tsp a day if that much... she did eat all her fruit though.

I think it took longer for the period to come the 2nd time cause my 1st started sleeping through the night early on, and 2nd only started sleeping through the night when she was 18 months (meaning I would bf'd her in middle of night). I ebf with both, but I pumped with 1st, and not with 2nd... don't know if those differences all contributed.

my sister on the other had her son is almost 2 and still has not had one it all depends on your body i think

i always knew that every 30 days almost to the hour  i was going to have it my sis on the other hand maybe had 2 or 3 a year so i think that has something to do with it

nursing doesn't always keep you from having periods..i nursed and i had my period 6 weeks after my daughter was born..it was a big surprise because you always read about not having a period for 6 months if you nursed

my son is almost 8 months and still nothing, thank goodness! most of my friends got theirs when they stopped night feeds, and logan is still having one feed at 4am...not sure what i would prefer, a full night sleep but a PAINFUL and HEAVY period, if past history is anything to go by...or being woken up at night but nice cuddles with my bubba. are you taking the mini pill, be careful that you dont get pregnant again (unless you want to), so far i've had 3 friends fall pregnant when they thought that they couldnt!

Oddly enough I started my period a week before my son turned 6 months on my birthday and my first mothers day how crazy. I breast fed and usually that delays it for a while.

I am 9 months postpartum, and I havent yet had my period either...I am breastfeeding exclusively though, and so I dont expect to get it back until she is about 1 or so...my mom didnt have her period for 9 years because she just got pregnant every time she slowed on the breastfeeding...I think its common to be without a period until you are not breastfeeding as heavily :)

Jennifer - I realized I was pregnant at about 9 wks. I could smell *everything* so intensely and my pants were fitting sorta tight. My husband kept teasing that I was pregnant so I took a test to "shut him up". Hmph!
