and how many bottles shouls I prepare?

he doesnt have a perfect routine going on, sometimes he nurses every hour, sometimes every three. I cant seem to judge his intake

Visit There is a breast milk calculator to help you figure that out. They say that a breastfed baby drinks on average 30 ounces a day between one month and six months of age. So they say to divide 30 by the number of times your baby nurses in a day and give that amount at a feeding. They also say that a breastfed baby will over eat with a bottle because they are used to being able to suck on the breast for comfort even when not eating. Since they can't suck on a bottle and not eat, they'll drink a bottle then fuss when it is gone, because they are expecting to be able to cure their need to suck, like they can at the breast. This is a great web site, lots of info.
