How often should I be feeding my 8 1/2 mth old?

My daughter has 3 solid meals a day plus occassionally a snack in the afternoon. She is happy to drink water with her meals. How often should I be breastfeeding her? Currently I feed her when she wakes in the morning then an hour or so later she'll have breakfast, then I'll offer her a feed after each of her meals & she always takes something. I only fed my son for 11 weeks so I have no idea how I should be doing this!

Yes, make sure that you are always nursing prior to offering solids. They shouldn't be replacing any nursing sessions prior to 12 months. She probably isn't taking as much of your milk as she could if you nurse afterwards.

You nurse her whenever she wants it but make sure she's not filling up on solids. Water- not necessary.

Remember that before your baby is 12 mo her primary nutrition source is from your bm. Solids are still for practice at this point. I always nursed before offering solid food and also between each solid meal. I would nurse your daughter whenever she indicates she is hungry then if it is time for a meal offer her the food after she has nursed.

Breastmilk should be the main food before the age of 12 months. I nurse in the morning when he wakes up, then his next feeding he gets bm and 1/2 jar of stage 2 food, then afternoon bm, the dinner bm and 1 jar of stage 2 baby food. He is with his sister-in-law during the week and I try to tell her to give him bm before food. I can only hope that she does.

What your doing is great. Try and feed her before meals if possible though. if she wanted more she ask for it. essentially but with the baby food they tend to nurse less to get them ready for more solids.

my 8 1/2 month old still eats, (bm), every two hours, morning - noon - and night, middle of the night included... I don't remember what it's like to sleep more than two hours! Even with solids after feeding from the breast, (2 - 3 times a day), he still has the internal timer that says, hey ma, it's been two hours, can I eat now?

my daughter is 9 months and she to eats around three full meals a day. I do breastfeed her in the mornings at a naps. She will let me know when she wants the breast and nothing else will do. I just let her decide when to nurse. I hope this helps
