How to substitute a couple of nursing sessions for milk in a sippy

My daughter is 12 months old and just had her 12 month check up. She has been the same weight for over 3 months and my doctor wants me to substitute a couple of her nursing sessions with another milk, either whole milk, toddler formula, or soy milk to make sure she is getting enough vitamins and to give me a break since she nurses an average of 9 times a day. A little background on her weight...she has been in the 99th % until 9 months old where she was at about the 95th % weighing 20 pounds. She started crawling at 9 months and has only grew 1 inch since then, so I wasn't too worried until now when she still hasn't even gained an ounce. She also eats 3 meals plus 2 snacks a day well. Iv'e tried giving her toddler formula in her sippy and she refuses to drink it. The only thing she will drink in her sippy is water. I even tried giving her breastmilk in her sippy tonight, then a bottle(and she's never had a bottle), and failed at both. Any suggestions?

Honestly, I wouldn't cut out any sessions (unless YOU want to). Mama's milk IS whole milk. It's normal for babies' growth to slow down. My twin boys' weight stagnated for a while and their pediatrician never suggested cutting out nursing sessions or to give them cow's milk. I don't remember how old they were but I know it was around 15 months or so that their weight started picking up.

Just a snippet from kellymom about the nutrients in mama's milk
“Breast milk continues to provide substantial amounts of key nutrients well beyond the first year of life, especially protein, fat, and most vitamins.”
– Dewey 2001
In the second year (12-23 months), 448 mL of breastmilk provides:
29% of energy requirements
43% of protein requirements
36% of calcium requirements
75% of vitamin A requirements
76% of folate requirements
94% of vitamin B12 requirements
60% of vitamin C requirements
– Dewey 2001

However, if YOU want to cut out a session, that's totally fine. And as long as she's nursing at least 3x's a day, you don't need cow's milk, or toddler formula. Water in a sippy is fine.
