My daughter is 6 months old and I still haven't got my period. Breastfeeding helps keep it away, BUT you can still get pregnant. Be careful!

I didn't get my period back until my baby was 1 year old. It started about 6 weeks after I stopped breastfeeding him. It was the same with baby number 1. My mid-wife and doctor warned I could still get pregnant so do take precautions. As baby feeds less the chance of getting pregnant increase.

Mine came back at 13 months. I wish it stayed away a little longer. I hate the mess... ;(

Perfectly normal you are! But yes, you can still get pregnant because you ovulate before you have a period. So if you have a method of birth control other than a "natural" method...talk to your OB/GYN about when to start it! I don't get my period until about 10 months after birth because I'm am exclusively breastfeeding and don't start solids until 6 months. My sister-in-law on the other hand, six to eight weeks after birth, she's back to ovulating and menstrating! Poor woman!

Perfactly normal you are! I breastfeed exclusively for six months and I don't get my period until about 10 months after birth. My sister in law on the other hand, six to eight weeks after birth starts menstrating and she exclusively breastfed as well. And yes, you can become pregnant before your period because you ovulate before you have a period. So if you use something other than natural birth control, talk to you OB/GYN about when to start your birth control again if you don't want to get pregnant right away.

When your breast feeding it prevents your body from releaseing the hormone that triggers menstration and USUALLY! ovulation. However it is possible to still get pregnant, so use protection unless your ready for another bundle of joy.
