I havent had my period in over 2 years...help!!!!!

[deleted account] ( 12 moms have responded )

I am nursing my 17 month old daughter and I have heard that some nursing mothers dont get a period but i havent had mine since before she was conceived, so all together its been over two years ( not that im complaining..lol.) but it just seems like an awfully long time. I am starting to get a little concerned. Has anyone heard of this??

Then I wouldn't worry about it! Like I said it is quite normal not to have one during the time you are nursing.

I did have one before she was conceived my last one was the month prior to conception, just to clarify :)

I never had a period while I was nursing any of my four children...the longest was 16 mos. but you said you didn't have one before she was conceived right? I guess I wouldn't worry about it because you never in your life get checked out more in that section of the body than when you are pregnant!! And no I wouldn't worry about it now until you are done nursing for about 6 months...

Yeah, BF is only effective as birth control if you feed (or pump) every 3 hours around the clock, though. So if your LO sleeps through the night, you're out of luck. On the bright side, what matters is frequency, not volume. So as long as the baby is latching on and nursing at least every 3 hours, it doesn't matter if he's getting much milk or not. So that's handy. :-)

Thanx guys.Yeah I just talked to my doc and he said that its a little uncommon in this country but only because most moms dont still nurse a frequently as I do at 17 months, he said it in fairly normal and some moms in other countries actually use it (nursing) as birth control.lol. thats if you dont get your period though.

i haven't heard of that long...but thank you for giving me hope that maybe with my next baby in the future i won't have a period for 2 years!! my son is 11 months and i got my period at 9 months. it was 8 beautiful months...oh how i miss it!

I just asked this question and my OBGYN said that he doesn't think it's necessary to get it checked out until 6 months *after* the baby has weaned. You can always give your doc a quick call to put your mind at ease.

Some moms who are nursing will not have a period until they wean.

http://www.kellymom.com/bf/normal/fertil... talks about fertility and BF. It is possible to go over 24 months of nursing without a period. It may be that for some reason before you go pregnant your uterine lining didn't get expelled and the next egg to be released implanted. It is possible to go more than three years without a period with nursing and pregnancy, though rare to go that long I can hope for it! :) If you are concerned, you might get with your GYN but as long as you've had your yearly and all checks out I would hold off on worry until the little girl has weaned. :)
