Sounds like he'll be alright then. Especially if you are leaving him with your mother in-law while you're gone - who he's used to staying with.

Other than pumping while you're gone, and leaving him with someone he is comfortable with, I'm not sure what else you can do to help him through the weekend without you. I'm guessing that without you there, he'll just take another bottle from your MIL without a problem.

You may find however when you get back that he's either very clingy to you and won't want to let you out of his sight for a while, OR... he may resist going back to breastfeeding - sort of like a protest. Either response is natural. Make sure you're prepared to spend a little extra time with him when you do get back.

Hi Lori A, my son stays with my mother inlaw while im at work and he does take formula as well. I will be pumping enough milk for Friday and Saturday as i will be coming back Sunday afternoon. I only breastfeed him in the morning before i go to work, in the afternoon during my lunch hour and at night before he goes to bed. during intervals he drinks formula.

Don't go! Or take him with you!

You have a 6 month old baby, and you expect there to be something you can do for him to not cry as his mommy leaves for a weekend?????? Seriously????

Now, I guess on to a more positive note... Is he used to taking bottles at all? Do you leave him with someone while you go to work now? If he's not used to being left and taking bottles already, an entire weekend away from you will be extremely difficult.

Do you have enough pumped milk stored for him for the whole weekend? Are you planning on bringing your pump so that you don't get engorged and so that you don't loose your supply while you're away? Do you have a plan in place for how to get that milk back home?

Is there any way you can bring your son with you? or postpone the trip until he's older, or more used to being left in someone elses care?
