I have a 3 month old that only breastfeeds. I have tried to start pumping to increase milk supply so that dad can have bottles to give as well as I want to wean at 6 months. It seems as though one of my breast only "gives" milk during the let down reflex; otherwise I cannot get anything from it when I pump. Any suggestions on the "normalcy" of this and what can I do. I have been pumping after every feeding for a week now and have not seen an increase in my supply. I have bought the phenugreek ( however it's spelled) but not sure if I want to use it due to the controversies. Any and all suggestions welcome

here is what the box says: Contraindications- do not use if you have known allergies to aniseed, anethole or fennel or to plants of the Asteraceae (daisy) family such as blessed thistle, calendula, chamomile, echinacea, safflower or yarrow. This tea is caffeine free so it wont make you jittery. I use to drink it several times a day when I wanted to increase my milk supply. Here is the website for more info: www.TraditionalMedicinals.com hope this is helpful :)

I've read that drinking a dark beer, full of hops, is helpful (just one, I assume)...however, I haven't seen any documentation supporting this. :)
Good luck! I'm in the same boat as you. Baby is starting childcare tomorrow, hopefully my other breast will pick up the slack. :D

I used Fenugreek for about 3 weeks. My supply went up a bit but my biggest problem was my birth control. My Dr put me back on ortho and my supply plummeted. As soon as i stopped taking it and used a little fenugreek i was back to normal!

I am wanting to be able to give her breastmilk when I do start weaning that is why I want to increase my supply. I am not sure how I will feel about her BF when she has teeth, that is why I am concerned about it past 6 months. Thanks for the feedback

Put your baby on to feed as often as she wants. This is the best way to increase supply. Your baby is the most efficient at extracting breastmilk too. By the way, any particular reason you chose 6months to wean? She shoulbe just starting solids and the American Academy of Pediatrics official recommendation is for babies to be breastfed for at least one year.
