I had my thyroid levels checked a few weeks ago the doctor called said it was low. She told me I needed to begin taking synthroid. I was just wondering if any breastfeeding moms were taking it?

Thanks for the comments!. I've been on the synthroid for about a week now and I can totally tell a difference.

I'm hypothyroid so my levels were checked about once a month while I was pregnant to keep me on the right dosage (it fluctuated some) and then after the baby my levels evened out again, but I still need to take it every day to feel healthy. It's really important to take it consistently and get your levels checked regularly (whatever your doc decides that is). And it's totally fine to take the Synthroid while you're nursing - if your levels are out of whack, it can affect your milk supply and of course give you a bunch of other problems like exhaustion, depression, etc. which is yucky!

I take the generic brand which is known as levothyroxine. Low thyroid levels can also be linked to low milk supply, so if you are nursing, definitely start taking the synthroid!
