Is it normal for my son to have a favorite side?

My son is almost 6 weeks old, we have had troubles with latching ever since birth so I was using a nipple shield. The past couple days I haven't been using it though. I can get him to latch on for both sides but on my right side he doesn't stay latched and struggles the whole time. Any suggestions?

Some babies prefer one side over the other. Could be any number of things causing the preference. Could be positioning, maybe he doesn't like looking one way as much as looking the other way. Could be on one side you hold him up higher than on the other side and he likes one position better than the other. Could be that one side has a faster or slower let down than the other side and again he has a preference about this.

Do you offer both sides at each feeding? Does he do better latching on to the right after he's nursed off the left, or better on the right if you offer it first? OR does he just NEVER stay latched on the right side.

Have you tried laid back nursing? or side laying nursing? Sometimes these positions work well when cradle hold or football hold aren't working.
