Alright fellow moms... I stopped nursing my daughter a year ago and about a month ago developed pretty severe mastitis. My daughter still fondles my breasts and lays on them, it's her comfort zone. Anyway, I just went through 2 courses of antibiotics and finally started feeling good and Wed. I noticed the pain again and today my breast is red and warm... again! Just wanted to know if this has happened to any of you ladies and if I should be concerned for any underlying issue's. I will be seeing my Dr. again on Monday.

Hi Veronica, I suffered SUPER severe mastitis with my 1st child, ask your dr to refer you to a physio for pregnant women, I had ultrasound done and that helped a lot!!
Good luck! :D

I had masitis when my baby was 2 weeks old but have never heard of it in mums that have stopped breast feeding. I feel for you because I know how painful mine was. Good luck

thank you ladies for all the help... i went into the ER tonight to get some attention.  i was begining to get a fever and achy all over.  They perscribed me another, stronger antibiotic but during the exam the Dr. said it was definately mastitis that may have turned into an absess.  So I will follow up Mon. with my Dr. but if it is an absess they will have to get rid of it.  I appreciate you all taking the time to lend me some help!

Oh, I feel your pain. I've been suffering from mastitis and clogged milk ducts this time around...my second child. I get in a super hot shower and massage lots...then I pump and nurse, nurse, nurse. I've been able to get over mine without antibiotics...although I will say that I have been taking Kyolic Garlic and Olive Leaf which are natural antibiotics. Since you are not nursing, I don't know what you can do except go back to the Dr. I have done a lot of googling on the subject and mastitis in women who are not nursing can be a sign of underlying issues, so I would not put this off. Better safe than sorry...and def worth your peace of mind...not to mention your comfort. Good luck and best wishes.

Thank you soo... much for the help ladies.  It's been kinda rough since I don't nurse anymore.  I've been thinking about getting out my pump and seeing if that helps.  Thanks again!

If you have finished the anti's and the problem has come back then Yes you need to see the doctor. Like you said. There might be an underlying problem that is showing up this way. I had a problem with the second child and I gets pumped my way through it. at the time my doctor said that I had a bad infection that was cause the problem. I went away, but I had to pump.I hope you feel better.

I hear Earth Mama boob tubes work great! You freeze them and they wrap around the masses. I have never experienced this personally though.
