Yes I know about the nitrites I wont give her carrots until she's 1. Do you think i would be able to find summer squash easy now than i would winter squash(pick season for winter squash is Nov-Dec)?

Depends on where you are. I haven't had a problem finding summer squash during the winter months, but I'm in a warm-weather climate. I'd think that any of the winter squashes would be yummy for her as well: acorn, butternut, etc. I wouldn't try spaghetti squash just yet though :-)

Really, the best stuff for her is the stuff that is in season, so use what you can find. Right now, we're getting some really great mangoes at our local Costco and if I had a little one I'd go ahead and puree those (in fact, the Champagne Mangoes are so soft that babies could probably mash with their tongue if they were 8 months or so). We've also been getting a lot of turnips from our local farm CSA, and those act a lot like white potatoes, so cooking and mashing would work really well, too.

Bananas were a big favorite at our house, too! :-) This is such a fun time, watching them explore new tastes and textures. Have fun!

Sweet potatoes and carrots are a good choice. My son LOVES carrots! Too many carrots and similar veg turn their skin orange though, so my doctor recommends alternating those types with green veg too...I'm going to try broccoli this weekend. We've done pears too and those went down well.

Good luck!

I was leaning towards yellow squash and banana for her second fruit. Is Yellow squash something like a winter squash?

It's actually "Summer Squash" - the yellow form of zucchini. Zucchini is good to use, too.

FYI, if you make your own carrots, you should wait until 9 months as the nitrites in carrots are not good for babies. Jarred baby food carrots have those removed.

There's no real order to which veggies or fruits you offer your baby.  The only veggie I've ever heard anything about is corn...harder to digest and may make tummy hurt, so wait until later (make it one of the last veggies you introduce).  Otherwise, feed your baby whatever looks good next..My kiddos all were a little orange after eating so many orange veggies.  It's nothing to worry about, but it does happen.

I usually start with avocado, then banana, the yams, then yellow squash. Check out http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com/ for good info on foods for babies :-)

I would go with either sweet potatoes or carrots.. I would stay with orange veg, since you did yams, which are orange (i think .. never did yams with my dd and never had one myself)

Yams and sweet potatoes are one in the same. But maybe i'll try carrots.

Sweet potatoes and carrots are usually the best weaning foods as babies prefer sweet tastes. With lil miss though, she gagged on carrot and sweet potato but loved spinach. :s She now eats whole olives with relish though so she' s not the norm.
