My son who was 9lbs at birth and is currently 14lbs 8oz this past week has only been eating for 3 to 5 mins at a time is this normal?? He poops at least twice a day soaks a diaper an unknown amount of time a day but frequently ( I'll get back to you on that ). Also, he eats every 2 hours sometimes less but I don't know what to do to change this. Could it be my let down he does tend to cough during eating. I do burp him and try for the other side when he is done but he just licks the nipple and fusses .. I Don't Wanna Have To Turn To Supplementing Please Help..

Also, Last night he slept for almost five hours, okay or not idk.

I agree I think you have a "Barracuda Baby" =) I was nervous when my son did this as well but once I got over that and realized he was gaining weight and peeing and pooping enough (proof) I was like this is great. My son would feed every 1 1/2 hours as well. I think it's pretty normal for a newborn. If your milk lets down quickly then he's getting a lot right away and gulping it down. Just keep feeding on demand and watching diapers and weight gain and you and he will be fine.

I agree with Celeste that you may have an overactive let down. But in general, it sounds like your baby is getting plenty. He's gaining weight, has enough diapers, and is even sleeping pretty well for a 6 week old. And yes it is fine for him to sleep that long as long as he is gaining weight and having enough diapers throughout the day. Some babies are "barracuda babies" They latch right on, suck that milk out and are done.. all very quickly. And eating every 2 hours or even more frequently is normal newborn behavior. Especially during growth spurts which happen frequently the first few months.'

Just keep nursing your baby. And check out that link that Celeste posted.
