I am a mother of 5 and this is a first for me! My beautiful DD will not eat food and wants to nurse more and more up to every 1 1/2 hrs. through the day! I have tried rice, oatmeal, sweet potatoes, bananas, cereal mixed with breast milk and all the while she holds her lips tight and refuses to try anything. How long can she go like this? Any advice out there???

Yeah, my girls (twins) started solids at 3.5 months and never looked back. My son started exhibiting similar signs at 5 months, but he was NOT ready. He'd just sit there w/ the food on his tongue and look at me like I was crazy. He finally figured out what to do w/ the food at 6 months... and liked it, but his interest was random. I just went w/ his cues... and loved that breastfeeding/breastmilk was like 'magic' to him. I never worried about his diet. What he was or wasn't eating. Even on the days after a year that he was too sick (or while teething) that he didn't want to eat cuz... he had the 'goods'.

Thanks Teresa! My DS who is now 2 1/2 was chowing anything at sight by 4 months so it seems that at 6 months she should be interested a bit more. I was not able to nurse prior to that so this is kinda new for me. I have been waiting hunger cues and trying to offer as often as all of our meals. She is interested in what we have but not in the 'eating' factor just curiousity. Thanks for the advice!!

How old is she? My son was eating food at random from about 6 months, but it was SO random that he wasn't eating on a daily basis til around a year. He nursed that often (on average) during the day til around a year and a half!

Not sure if that will encourage or discourage you. I just wanted to let you know that your daughter's behavior can be considered perfectly normal and chances are... she'll be just fine. :)
