I also used a carrier with my sons and worked really well. Even if they didn't sleep, they would usually stop crying. (Usually) Some babies just fight sleep. My sons were like that and I used to get very frustrated. As long as he has everything he needs and is comfortable (clean, fed, no gas, etc) all you can do is try various methods to get him sleepy. One thing that worked pretty well for my sons was a bath. Even if it meant 2 baths a day, bathing them, putting lavender lotion, and nice soft clean clothes usually made them more relaxed. Soft music may also help, and trying to make the room as dark as possible. If this all fails, I'm sorry. : ) He will probably get over this phase. Good luck.

Have you tried carrying him in a sling or other type carrier? Most babies are very content to be strapped onto mom. When my LO's would get extra cranky, I'd put them in a sling or in my Ergo carrier, and go about my business. If they were tired, it usually only took a few minutes to get them to sleep. If they were just cranky, they'd settle down and be happy again pretty quickly. It's a proven fact that babies who are carried more, cry less, and sleep better than those who aren't carried around much. A sling or a good carrier makes it pretty easy to carry your baby around everywhere with you while you still have your hands free to do whatever you need to do.
