Nipple Shield Troubles....or are they?

I've been using the nipple shield for 10 weeks. I've tried to latch him without it and he will sometimes and wont others. So, it's an ongoing struggle between the two of us. I'm afraid of it hurting my supply since I've heard that shields are horrible for that.

Has anyone used the shield full time until the baby was eating solids? Do you HAVE to pump after each feeding because that's not even a possibility for me.

I have gone to formula a few times because I was so sick of cleaning that shield and keeping up with it. But, before I completely give up on breastfeeding- I was hoping to get some hope or encouragement?

Just to hear people who have used it without issues. For long periods of time.

To be honest I was a pumping mad woman. I pumped every hour and a half when I was
off work. This revved my milk supply up higher than it needed to be really. I would pump for 10
minutes with an electric pump for about 2 or 3 months.
Avoid soda and alcohol, water is best at least 8 glasses a day

Amazing thing happened. Wednesday, I tried without it and....we have been shield free since!!!!!!!!!!!! Now, I need to get my supply up. I hope that just being off the shield will help! Anyone have success with mothers milk tea?

I used the 50% of the time till my milk came in. I was determined to get rid of that thing. It hurt and I didn't think it was sanitary. Keep practicing with out it. I found getting lots of my boobie into her mouth helped until she got the hang of it. Good luck!
I also noted that the milk wouldn't flow as freely when I was using the shield. So I would assume that would pose a problem for my supply. That is another reason why I junked the thing.
